The National Trova Festival is a vibrant event that celebrates improvisation, poetry, and music. Originating from the Antioquia region in Colombia, this competition brings together troubadours from across the country to compete in sung and rhymed verses.
Trova Paisa
Trova Paisa or Copla is a distinctive style of trova from Antioquia. It comes in two forms: simple trova and doublet trova. The simple trova consists of four eight-syllable verses, with rhymes between the second and fourth lines, accompanied by the sound of the bambuco. The doublet trova, more lively and festive, features eight eight-syllable verses with rhymes in the second, fourth, sixth, and eighth lines. Both modalities demand creativity and consonant rhymes.
The Most Important Event
The National Trova Festival in Medellín is the epicenter of this tradition. With four classification phases (auditions, qualifiers, semifinals, and finals), troubadours compete for the title of National Trova King. The winner receives recognition and the opportunity to showcase their art during the Feria de las Flores (Flower Festival).
